Sanger Research Lab Member Chris Rider Wins Responsible Research in Management Award

Chris Rider, Thomas C. Kinnear Professor and Associate Professor of Entrepreneurial Studies at Michigan Ross and Sanger Research Lab member, has been awarded the 2024 Responsible Research in Management Award by the Fellows Group of the Academy of Management and the Community for Responsible Research in Business and Management. This prestigious honor celebrates the best academic publications of the last four years that produce credible and useful knowledge benefiting society. Rider’s work, Racial Disparity in Leadership: Evidence of Valuative Bias in the Promotions of National Football League Coaches published in the American Journal of Sociology with coauthors James B. Wade, Anand Swaminathan, and Andreas Schwab, received the ‘Winner’s Award’ for being one of the top eight publications in the entirety of the field of management research published between 2020-2024. His research exemplifies the award’s criteria of credibility, defined by the reliability and trustworthiness of findings, and usefulness, demonstrated by the potential to influence policy and improve practice for societal betterment.
