The Sanger Leadership Center is thrilled to welcome Dr. Betty Chu, Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for Advocate Health, to the Sanger Advisory Board. An alumna of the University of Michigan, Dr. Chu received a BS in 1992, graduated with her MD in 1995, and earned her MBA from the Ross School of Business in 2013.
At Advocate Health, the third largest health system in the nation, Dr. Chu oversees clinical quality and safety, serving 6 million lives across six states. She joined Advocate Health in August 2023, shortly after the system’s formation from the merger of Atrium Health, Wake Forest, Advocate Health Care, and Aurora Health Care. Her role focuses on integrating clinical quality and safety to achieve clinical excellence and zero harm.
Dr. Chu is actively involved in several prestigious organizations, including the Leapfrog Hospital Advisory Committee. She is an elected member of the American Medical Association Council on Medical Service and serves on the boards of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Detroit Zoological Society, and the Zekelman Holocaust Center.
Her accolades include the Michigan Women Forward “Women of Achievement and Courage Award” and Crain’s Detroit Business “40 Under 40.” Dr. Chu was also appointed by Governor Whitmer as the Co-Chair of the Michigan Nursing Homes COVID-19 Preparedness Task Force.
Reflecting on her new role, Dr. Chu stated, “The leadership learning I experienced as a student at Ross was transformative for my career. I’m honored to serve on the Sanger Advisory Board with our commitment to inspiring the next generation and educating the leaders and best!”
Sanger’s managing director, Jeff Domagala, commented, “We look forward to learning from Dr. Chu’s wealth of knowledge as a leader in the healthcare industry. Her commitment to leadership and education aligns perfectly with the center’s mission to inspire and develop future leaders.”
Dr. Chu is the fifteenth member to join the Sanger Advisory Board, which is composed of accomplished and motivated executive professionals who are passionate about developing the next generation of leaders. The Board represents a variety of industries and experience levels and is dedicated to advancing the Center’s mission in three key areas: strategic input, fundraising, and corporate connection. Board members meet with the Center leadership several times per year and also contribute their expertise at several of Sanger’s programs.
