The Sanger Leadership Center is excited to announce the newest member of the Sanger Advisory Board, Chief Risk Officer of Wells Fargo & Company, Derek Flowers.
Derek received his BS from the University of Arizona in 1995 and his MBA from Michigan Ross in 2001.
As Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Risk Officer, Derek is accountable for the effective governance of the company’s risk programs. As the leader of the independent corporate risk function, he oversees all financial and non-financial risks, including compliance risk management. Derek’s leadership team includes chief risk officers for each of the five business groups and Finance, and risk officers overseeing risk management programs by risk type. Derek serves on the Wells Fargo Operating Committee and is based in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Derek is passionate about giving back to the next generation of leaders, and looks forward to mentoring students and furthering the mission of the Sanger Leadership Center. “The Ross School provided the education and experiences for me to develop a successful and rewarding business career. The opportunity to discuss current business problems with executives who visited campus enriched my classroom experience,” Flowers said. “I’ve joined the board of Sanger to provide that opportunity for current students as well as help shape the educational training required for a young person to thrive in today’s business world.”
Sanger’s managing director, Jeff Domagala, shared, “We are thrilled to add Derek’s wealth of knowledge and experience to our Board and look forward to witnessing the positive impact of their collective efforts at Ross.”
Derek will be joining the existing board of ten members, made up of accomplished and motivated executive professionals. The Board represents a variety of industries and experience levels and is dedicated to advancing the Center’s mission in three key areas: strategic input, fundraising, and corporate connection. Board members meet with the Center leadership several times per year and also contribute their expertise at several of Sanger’s programs.
