Taught by Professor Aparna Joshi
Available to BBA and non-Ross undergraduate students
Increasing innovation, productivity, well-being, and excellence through inclusion and equity is one of the most pressing challenges facing leaders today. Moreover, given the dynamic environments that most leaders confront, this course will unpack how leaders can navigate diverse stakeholders who might have varied reactions – both positive and negative – to their efforts to bring about inclusive and equitable change in and around organizations. In this course, you will increase your knowledge, skills, and confidence to be an effective and inclusive leader as well as to address equity/inclusion-related challenges or dilemmas that are an inevitable part of organizational life. This course is organized around three “Acts”. In Act 1: Recognizing Differences, you will learn to recognize how social differences translate into inequity and what you can do to interrupt this process. In Act II: Responding to Differences, you will learn to apply two mindset tools to relate positively to others who look, think, or believe differently. Finally, in Act III: Relating Across Differences, you will learn to build positive relationships across differences at the personal level, in your team, and in your organization. We will achieve your learning goals through class discussions, self-reflections, and a team project.
